Doug Abeles
Writer
Doug wrote, head wrote, and produced SNL’s Weekend Update from 2001-2011. During his tenure, Doug wrote for anchors Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon, Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers, winning an Emmy, a Peabody and three WGA Awards along the way. Doug helped write Seth’s speech at the infamous 2011 White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. The one that zinged Donald Trump so hard he decided to run for President. Really sorry about that. More recently, Doug was a writer on the critically acclaimed BET show The Rundown with Robin Thede. Doug has also written words that have been spoken by President Barack Obama, Jon Stewart, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Bette Midler, Katie Couric, Bill Maher, Howard Stern, and comedy legend Earvin “Magic”Johnson. Doug got his start writing for Norm Macdonald and is honored that one of his jokes was recently included in Norm’s list of the “Top 25 Weekend Update Jokes Of AllTime.” That joke earned Doug a sweet $50. Fortunately, since then, Doug’s joke writing fee has nearly doubled.
